The Commodore 64 is back! But not as you know it…

Commodore 64x

Commodore fans and lovers of retro computing in general, thanks to My Retro Computer, the brand could well be back – at least in name. Because in this particular Kickstarter, you are pledging for what is variations of a modern PC within a C64 style case plus the added kudos of the officially licensed Commodore name. Or just the case to put a modern ITX style board or Raspberry Pi into – take your pick. And with 28 days to go (at time of writing) it is already fully funded almost 4 times over.

Pledges include the following levels:

Commodore 64x Barebones

Case with integrated USB mechanical (cherry mx) keyboard with double shot keycaps. Case has space for an mini-ITX motherboard but also supports the Raspberry Computer Module 4 I/O board. Various coloured cases will be available.

Commodore 64x Extreme

The above but fitted with a passively cooled Intel Celeron J6412 (4 cores, 4 threads), 4GB DDR4 RAM (expandable to 8GB), a 250GB NVMe hard drive and an integrated 2.5” SATA hard drive docking station.

Commodore 64x Ultimate

The above but fitted with an Intel Core i5, Nvidia GTX 1650 Graphics, 8GB DDR4 RAM (expandable to 64GB), Wi-Fi, a 500GB NVMe hard drive and an integrated 2.5” SATA hard drive docking station.

So if you want a modern PC with the feel of your old Commodore, this might be for you. And if you think that £330 is a little too pricy for an entry level PC, remember it is in the form factor of a rather cool looking C64, that’s gotta be worth the extra money, right?
