Videogame Box Protectors from videogameboxprotectors.com review

There’s nothing us collectors like better than a box. And the condition that box is kept in is especially paramount when you are talking of the 30 year old collectibles that I invest my hard earned (!?) money in. In the past I have individually bagged all of my boxed cartridges and stored them in a sturdy outer box so no damage becomes them. But what if you don’t want to put them in a box never to be seen by human eye? Maybe you want to display them and still keep them in tip top condition? In the past this was almost impossible, but recently there have been a number of companies that have produced plastic display cases for individual cartridge boxes and I have decided to try some out.

After much trawling of the interweb I came to the conclusion that the products of www.videogameboxprotectors.com, a US based company looked like the ones to go for, put my order in for 25 boxes to fit 2600/5200/7800 carts, (via their eBay listing) and waited.

Not for long though, the protective case arrived via USPS Priority Mail within 5 days of my order, which is considerably faster than many UK-based eBay sellers seem to manage.

The cases come flat-packed and are made from a very clear Polyethylene Terephthalate, which is lightweight, and acid/ligend free. With a simple bit of folding the box is assembled and ends up being quite sturdy despite its lightweight gauge. The boxes open with standard box flaps at both ends. I have tested with various cartridges and they have been made big enough to accommodate the slightly thicker Parker Brothers boxes etc. but not so big that standard boxes rattle around. The boxes I tested are also suitable for ColecoVision and Intellivision cartridge boxes.

In Summary

I am impressed with the box protectors which have a perfect balance of lightweight design and rigidity. I am confident that these will protect my precious boxes from drops, spills and other mishaps whilst letting me display their glorious box art, so I am a happy chappy. I will be ordering many more in due course for all the other systems I own and hopefully the fit and quality will be just as good as these were.
