Q and A with Lifespiller79

When did you become interested in video games and what was the first video game you played?

Lifespiller79: For me it started an early age. I was around 5 or 6 when I became interested in video games. The first game I can remember was Super Mario Bros.

What was the first games console or computer you owned and how old were you?

Lifespiller79: Atari 2600 at the age of 9 I believe.

What got you into collecting videogames, computers and consoles?

Lifespiller79: I got to a point when I wanted to dip back into the old video games that I had, played or wanted in my collection. With having a YouTube Channel, it inspired me even more when I stumbled on other collectors.

Where do you source most of your retro purchases from (eBay, flea markets etc.)?

Lifespiller79: A major part of my collection comes from pawn shops, second hand stores and retro stores.

What is your most prized retro gaming possession and how much did it cost you?

Lifespiller79: It would have to be my Super Nintendo. I actually got it about 3 years ago bundled with 9 great titles for $70.

What is your favourite game and console manufacturer?

Lifespiller79: My favorite game is debatable. Lol I quickly say God of War III but I have this crazy love for Mega Man II.  Sony would have to be my favorite manufacturer. When I hear the name I think of quality.

What is your favourite console?

Lifespiller79: That would be the Super Nintendo/PlayStation 2. This one has a special place in my retro history (Super Nintendo). I got this system on my favorite Christmas. That was the year of 1992. I hardly got anything that year and it was the one thing that I wanted.

What console have you least enjoyed playing?

Lifespiller79: Dreamcast. I didn’t purchase the system during the time it was and when I finally owned it I didn’t know the library that well.

The burning house scenario: which part of your collection would you save first?

Lifespiller79: I would definitely go after my oldest consoles and games first (NES, SNES, N64 and Turbografx16). Main reason is due to the fact some of those games are hard to find. The last few generation console and games are easier to replace.

The Desert Island scenario: which one console and game would you take?

Lifespiller79: PlayStation 2, GTA Trilogy

Where do you want to go now with the collection?

Lifespiller79: The main thing for me is getting games that I want and not just a bunch of games. I also want to move towards getting more boxed games (NES, SNES and Sega Genesis). Plus add more rare items like collectible toys; special editions etc.

Have you any tips for budding retro games collectors?

Lifespiller79: I would say it’s important to collect the games that YOU want in your collection. It could be games that have certain nostalgia to them.  Also you could buy games that you didn’t have or couldn’t afford. Do your homework on the games you’re looking to purchase. The retro market goes up and down in pricing. You want to shop around and find the best prices. Know when you come across a certain game that you have been looking for that you have won. There may be times you will not see that same game for a long time. Common titles are a dime a dozen but cheap deals are a gem. That’s the beauty behind your collection, it’s your collection.
