Seems like it’s the year for retro books on Kickstarter, what with Artcade, The Megadrive/Genesis: Collected Works and Commodore 64: a visual Commpendium already having been funded. This campaign has also already been funded but still has 20 days to run (at the time of writing this article) and is for a 200+ page, softback book on the famous Birmingham based, British software house U.S. Gold. If you grew up in the 80’s and owned a home micro, you would have heard of these guys. Specialising in coin-op conversions in particular, classics such as Beach Head, Summer Games, World Class Leaderboard, Winter Olympics and Outrun were all massive hits for the company which grew to be a name to be reckoned with by the mid 80s. The book charts their rise and eventual sell-off to Eidos and is written by Chris Wilkins (Retro Revival) and Roger Kean of Newsfield fame (Zzap! 64, Crash) who successfully funded another Kickstarter campaign in 2013 for a book on the history of Ocean software.
