Spotted! Low serial ZX Spectrum for sale on ebay

This low serial Sinclair ZX Spectrum certainly has the lowest Issue 1 number I’ve ever seen for sale and is currently on ebay (at time of writing). Serial Number 001-000009 is up for ‘Buy It Now’ at a cool £6000. Whether this is just cashing in on the current renewed interest in the ZX Spectrum or not, the price is not for the faint of heart. But will we ever see an earlier Spectrum for sale? Link to ebay ‘Buy It...

Spotted! Rare Sinclair prototypes up for auction

ZX80 design prototype ZX80 design prototype ZX81 design prototype ZX90 Sinclair Computer Base Module ZX Spectrum design prototype Unknown prototype Sinclair 9200 Microvision 2700 Pocket TV design prototype Pocket TV design prototype Up for auction on ebay UK is this very interesting collection of rare Sinclair prototypes which were given to the seller’s father in an office clear out by Sir Clive himself. These prototypes are all non-working design-stage models of the ZX80, ZX81 and Spectrum plus some models of unreleased computers. These prototypes shed some light on the design process at Sinclair Research back in the 80s. I don’t have to tell Sinclair collectors how exciting these protos are. Probably a once in a lifetime chance of adding a unique and personal piece of Sinclair history to your collection. Only one day left at time of writing so get your skates on! Ebay auction...

Jupiter ACE for sale – bidding starts at £10000

No, this isn’t drawing your attention to an auction for a special solid gold Jupiter ACE encrusted with diamonds, but a once in a lifetime chance to own the rights to the entire Jupiter ACE brand. Included in the auction are the original development tapes, an archive of unpublished software titles including masters and trial editions, some Jupiter ACE hardware including some dev hardware, original artwork for the Jupiter ACE’s promotional literature and of course the rights to the brand. Go check out the eBay auction or for more details see the website. Please let the lottery come up this weekend. I’d rather buy this than a boring...

Chances missed – rare Sinclair PC200 online auction

Now, normally I would publish these before the auction ended, to let you all know of a great and rare vintage computer coming up for sale. I kept this Sinclair PC200 to myself because I wanted to have a bid and I’m not likely to go and increase the interest on something I want now am I? It was all in vain however as this rarely seen example of Amstrad’s attempt at a replacement for the Sinclair QL sold for way more than I could afford to shell out (see pic above). Shame, would have been a great addition to the...

More crazy prices for another rare ZX Spectrum educational game

As I have reported before on several occasions, a number of Sinclair branded ZX Spectrum educational titles seem to command unusually high prices when sold online. Their rarity lies with the fact that although we all promised our parents that we wanted a computer for educational purposes, the reality was we all wanted to play games and the educational titles got left on the shelves. Add to that the fact that they weren’t produced in any great numbers anyway and you end up with something pretty scarce. That being said, nothing prepared me for the auction listing I stumbled across recently. The auction in question is for a rare Macmillan educational title called Spellbox, which I’ve seen go for upwards of £100 on a few occasions now. The seller in this instance is asking a whopping £499.99 for the very same title. Perhaps he or she has read my previous posts and feels lucky. Perhaps they are just delusional. I just hope that no-one out there is crazy enough to part with that much money for what is frankly a crappy game aimed at 5-8 year olds, where you play noughts and crosses whilst forming words. The auction listing mentions that the LCD screen is not included. At that price it ought to...

And another ZX Spectrum Macmillan title goes for over £100

£119.57 to be precise. As I have previously highlighted on the site, Macmillan educational titles are going for some very high prices at auction and here is another example. Oil Strike has come up before and fetched a similar price last time round but it still amazes me how far people will go to get an frankly uninspiring educational title. Admittedly I would like these to finish off my Sinclair branded collection but anything over £30/£40 for something I would never play is too much for my pocket. See the original auction listing...
