Another rare ZX Spectrum title makes premium price

Spellbox by Macmillan Sinclair

Another day, another auction. But this was no ordinary auction. In my many years of being an avid ‘ebayer’ (10 years+) I have only ever seen this come up once before. This auction was for Spellbox, a rare educational title by Macmillan under the Sinclair label. Not surprisingly it garnered a lot of interest and ended up going for a whopping (by Spectrum software standards) £114.57 with a total of 15 bids.

I would have normally mentioned this before auction end but I wanted a sneaky bid myself so thought it prudent not to let on… Needless to say I didn’t win.

I have made enquiries and it does seem pretty rare. But rare doesn’t necessarily equate to valuable. Value comes from rarity and desirability. I’m not sure it is very desirable, sorry.

    Cheers, Ant

  3. Many thanks for the reply & the research Ant, appreciated.
